observation

The dance school is located in Sadhana Paranji’s (dance instructor) house. The dance school is in basement. The dance school is not too big or too small. Let's just say there is enough space to fit at least thirty students at the same time. The dance school walls are brown with a big mirror on the middle of the wall. All the way in left corner of the dance school, there is a statue of the god of dance. It's is a gold statue, in a Lord Shiva dance pose . The students in the dance school were very busy. One student in a pink shalwar ( Indian outfit) with blue and white roses on the blouse, was practicing with the teacher. The student was messing up a lot of times because she had forgotten half of the song. She teacher seemed worried, However the teacher sang the song slowly and shown her the dance step by step.

Meanwhile, some students were practicing in the corner with there friends. And four younger students were trying to get help from the older students. Two of the younger students looked very scared when they were getting help from the older students. The older students worked with them as hard as possible. The other two younger students were just playing around and weren’t taking the older students seriously. So, the older students had to calm them down and they started to practice.

When observing the dance teacher, she is a very pleasant person. She really enjoys teaching her students and you can see the passion when shes dancing. The way she teaches is by giving a one-on-one time with each student, because each student are in the own pace in dance school. The students also focuses when they do the one and one time with the teacher. When observing the students in there one and one practice they seemed very nervous when showing the teacher there new dance moves. You can tell when someone is nervous in dance school, by not even looking at the dance teacher and messing up when it is your turn to show the teacher what you have learnt from the previous week. Someone reveals that there nervous by forgetting the dance or looking down while practicing.

When the students were taking their break, I noticed the walls. On the bottom corner walls, it has pictures of the students who have graduated from the dance school. It was beautiful pictures of the students who graduated. Each graduate was in a gorgeous traditional bharatnatyam dance dress doing a dance pose. Each picture of the graduate students are cropped and put together in one big picture, with each student incorporating a dance move while dancing for there graduation. On the other side of the walls, there are pictures of the dance teacher when she was dancing in her young days.

I couldn't stop looking at those photos of the dance teacher. The photos are in black and white, she was doing an interesting pose by sitting down flat on the floor rising her right leg and hold it with her right hand. In her left hand she is doing a bharatnatyam hand gesture called Kaphita.
